Who We Are
This year, we celebrate 30 years of singular focus on anesthesiology. As a physician-owned, anesthesia-only organization, we partner with hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers to help anesthesia services operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with the facilities they serve.
We are innovators in our field. We pioneered the use of blended care teams and continue to champion evidence-based medicine, patient safety, and population health. Our approach supports clients as they navigate the shift toward value-based reimbursement while maintaining high standards of clinical quality and access.
Our organization is led by anesthesiologists and CRNAs who collectively bring more than a century of hands-on anesthesiology experience. This clinical leadership, paired with deep operational expertise, allows us to work collaboratively and hands-on with every client.
Our national footprint continues to grow. Today, we support anesthesia services in urban, suburban, and rural communities across more than 9 states. We work with approximately 200 payers, support a clinical network of more than 500 anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists, and are backed by more than 100 administrative and practice management professionals.
We were the first anesthesia-only organization to be named a Patient Safety Organization and are proud members of the Perioperative Surgical Cohort. We believe anesthesia departments deliver the greatest value when they have strong on-site leadership and are fully aligned with the clinical, operational, and financial goals of the facilities they serve.

Leading the way
As members of the Perioperative Surgical Home Cohort, we’ve been among the first advocates of evidence-based medicine. We share that knowledge with our client partners who are interested in improving clinical outcomes and access to care and lowering systemwide costs.
Our client partners sometimes ask us to help them develop and operationalize patient-focused best practices and to redesign inefficient processes. Collaborating with executive and interdepartmental clinical teams, we use patient-focused care to transform healthcare, optimize performance and satisfy Triple Aim goals.
Dedicated to clinical quality and patient safety
After 25 years, clinical quality and patient safety remain the cornerstones upon which Somnia rests. In fact, our Clinical Quality Excellence (CQE) program has been used as a model by some of our clients when designing their own best practices and protocols. We remain proud of the fact that we were the first anesthesia-only management company named a Patient Safety Organization by the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality.
And because we remain data-driven, we define, measure, and assess clinical quality throughout each patient encounter. Using robust tools and reporting, we capture more clinical quality/patient safety indicators than required for regulatory compliance. We also use our data to monitor and benchmark the performance of the groups and individual clinicians in our 500-plus network of anesthesia physicians and CRNAs who deliver hundreds of thousands of anesthetics.
