Webinar Examines Clinical Leadership Trends and Announcement of CRNA of the Year
NEW ROCHELLE, NY (March 11, 2013) – In the second of an ongoing careers-focused webinar series co-hosted by Somnia Anesthesia and GasWork.com, “Identifying and Succeeding in a Clinical Leadership Role,” was presented live to a large national audience of anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) on Tuesday, February 26.
The webinar discussed the subject of leadership from two perspectives – current anesthesia leaders and aspiring anesthesia leaders. The discussion from a current anesthesia chief, Roy Winston, MD, chief of anesthesiology at Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia, CA, focused on the daily responsibilities and challenges of his role as the leader of an anesthesia care team. The second half of the presentation led by Marina Ring, chief operating office of Somnia Anesthesia, addressed the skills and experience required to receive consideration for an anesthesia leadership role and how to get there. Paul Martin, MD, president and founder of GasWork.com, served as moderator.

At the conclusion of the webinar, Dr. Martin announced the winner of Somnia’s 2013 CRNA of the Year contest. The recipient of this prestigious award was given to Dorothea Connolly from The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Ms. Connolly received several nominations, notably from her colleagues David Cohen, MD, perioperative medical director, and Carol Pasquareillo, MD, FAAP, associate clinical director of perioperative services.
Among the many complimentary examples given of Ms. Connolly’s work, Dr. Pasquareillo said, “Dorothea is the epitome of what CRNA stands for. She has the respect of the anesthesiologists and surgeons. She is the leader of the CRNA group, and is seen as a leader in the OR.”
“I am thrilled and humbled that I was chosen to be Somnia’s sponsored CRNA of the Year for 2013,” said Ms. Connolly. “I feel very privileged to be part of a profession with such diverse opportunities clinically, educationally and administratively. This honor is a testament to the value we bring to anesthesia care as a whole.”
