George Mychaskiw, DO, FAAP, FACOP, FASA

Dr. Mychaskiw is a quadruple board-certified adult and pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist with a distinguished career spanning clinical care, academic medicine, and healthcare leadership. He earned his medical degree from the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his anesthesiology residency and fellowships at the Yale University School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital.
A recognized leader in academic anesthesiology and medical education, Dr. Mychaskiw has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, with a focus on hospital operations, medical education, and perioperative management. He is a sought-after international speaker and a respected authority on medical and educational administration in both the United States and developing healthcare systems. He is also a graduate of the American Osteopathic Association’s Health Policy Fellowship.
Dr. Mychaskiw is best known for his role as Founding Dean and Chief Academic Officer of the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine at New Mexico State University, where he led the development of one of the most diverse osteopathic medical schools in the country. Under his leadership, the institution successfully launched in 2016 through a public-private partnership and has consistently been recognized for advancing physician workforce diversity.
Beyond BCOM, Dr. Mychaskiw has played a key role in the development of multiple colleges of osteopathic medicine nationwide, contributing to strategic planning, academic design, and institutional launch efforts across several new and expanding programs.
His academic leadership includes serving as Founding Chair of Anesthesiology and Medical Director of Perioperative Services at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Professor and Chair at Drexel University, and Vice Chair at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, where he led the expansion of pediatric surgical services and the development of a pediatric cardiac surgery program.
In 2024, Dr. Mychaskiw joined Somnia Anesthesia as Regional Medical Director – West, National Director of Cardiac Anesthesia, and Director of Cardiac Anesthesia at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton, California.
