One Prescription For 2018: Check Your GQ

What a year 2017 has been (continues to be), with all manner of disruptions both natural and manmade. Hurricanes, wildfires, shaky foreign relations, high-profile personal scandals, an opioid epidemic that hits crisis level, and more security breaches. And, lest we forget the non-clinical side of healthcare, we could not close out the year without a series of mergers and more revisions to the healthcare system, specifically as they relate to reimbursements.

In early November, CMS issued a final rule that impacts payment policies, payment rates, and quality provisions for services furnished under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) on or after January 1, 2018. In response to the latter, we’ve created an infographic that provides a snapshot of MACRA/MIPS and what that means to providers. We think you’ll find it informative.

Healthcare providers understand that there is no end in sight to the evolution of healthcare. To withstand the pressure that accompanies constant change, the CEO of the Cleveland Clinic suggests in an article in Becker’s Hospital Review that those who work in the industry will need a high GQ, or Guts Quotient. Guts, in this case, refers to one’s ability to persevere through all the disruption. If the trajectory and velocity of change in our industry in the past few years provides us with an inkling of what to expect in the future, all caregivers may want to channel John Wayne (think “True Grit”).
