In mid-May, hundreds of hospital executives and industry leaders convened in Chicago for the 2012 Becker’s Hospital Review Annual Conference. The featured speakers spoke on a variety of issues impacting today’s healthcare environment including ACOs, physician-hospital integration and improving profitability.
Somnia was proud to be a “gold” exhibitor at the conference and was also afforded the opportunity to speak during a Friday workshop session. CEO and President Marc Koch, MD, MBA, presented on “Avoiding a Hurricane: How to Evaluate Your Anesthesia Provider and Ensure Your OR’s Success.”
In his presentation, Dr. Koch stressed the importance of early and ongoing evaluation of an anesthesia group; the length of time (18 months) it takes to explore new options and change providers; and the five early warning signs of suboptimal anesthesia services – clinical inefficiency and Ineffectiveness; discord and disconnect; customer dissatisfaction; administrative problems; and the movement of anesthesiology clinicians to other facilities in the area.
