Somnia Anesthesia Announces Recipient of Third Annual CRNA of the Year Award

In celebration of National Nurse Anesthetists Week, Somnia Anesthesia, a anesthesia practice management company serving hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and office based practices nationwide, launched its third annual Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) of the Year on January 20. Nominations were accepted through February 20 and were reviewed by Somnia’s clinical leadership team to determine the winner.

Although many notable nominations were received, Katherine Piekos, CRNA, from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA, was selected for exemplifying best-in-class patient care. Katherine’s Chief CRNA, Elizabeth Visco, described her as “an exemplary CRNA who holds the bar high for herself and for the other staff. She is a phenomenal resource and is always willing to educate others either in a formal or informal setting.”

Katherine is joining Somnia’s past CRNA of the Year recipients Holly Robins of Yale University and Dorothea Connolly from The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. “CRNAs are an integral part of quality patient care deliverables and this award is our way of recognizing excellence in the field of anesthesiology,” said Brandy Pearson, Somnia’s Director of National Recruitment.

“I thank Somnia for sponsoring this award. It is an honor to be recognized as their 2014 CRNA of the Year. I am quite proud to be a Nurse Anesthetist,” said Piekos. “We are dedicated to our patients and committed to excellence when caring for them. I would like to accept this award on behalf of my many colleagues and mentors, past and present, all of whom I consider champions for patient safety and quality anesthesia care.”
