Somnia Announces Winners of Seventh Annual CRNA of the Year Award And First Annual SRNA of the Year Award

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (February 26, 2018) – Somnia Anesthesia, an anesthesia practice management company serving hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and office-based facilities nationwide, announced the winners of the 2018 CRNA of the Year Award and the First Annual SRNA of the Year Award: David Monzo, CRNA, at Pennsylvania Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, LTD, and Njodzeka “Joe” Ngong, SRNA, studying at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA, respectively. Both awards were established in support of National Nurse Anesthetists Week.

Somnia launched the SRNA award this year to recognize the clinical and educational accomplishments, career advocacy, and dedication to excellent patient care of an outstanding student registered nurse anesthetist and to recognize the furtherance of the nurse anesthesia profession.

“As a CRNA and as a healthcare executive, I am proud of the many nurses who continue advancing this noble profession and who provide safe, superior, and cost-efficient care to patients in every clinical setting in which anesthesia is delivered,” said Linda Caccamo, CRNA, and COO at Somnia Anesthesia. “We believe the mandate for value, accessible care, and enhanced patient experiences will demand the role of the nurse anesthetist to continue to expand.”

Mr. Monzo was nominated by his fellow CRNAs for the exceptional and safe perioperative anesthesia care he provides patients and for the collaboration and support he brings to his colleagues. A practitioner and strong advocate of the profession for more than seven years, David makes it a point every day to identify opportunities to teach others about a career as a nurse anesthetist career, and to mentor nurses and assistants with whom he works. He is dedicated and engaged member of his family and is actively serves his community.

Mr. Ngong, who is slated to graduate May 2018, was chosen by his clinical preceptor and clinicians with whom he works for the quality, professionalism, compassion, and vast scientific knowledge he brings to his work. Born on another continent, Joe became curious about healthcare as a child. His interest in anesthesiology developed when inadequate medication affected the intra- and post-operative care of a family member. He came to the U.S. when he was older and learned English, determined to study the science of anesthesia and to bring his knowledge and expertise back to his country, and to others lacking anesthesia clinicians.

Both awards recognize the dedication and devotion of anesthesia clinicians working to achieve best-in-class patient care, and the honest commitment to personal and professional growth and improvement they exhibit.
