The month of May includes two annual celebrations recognizing the many contributions of healthcare professionals. Somnia Anesthesia wishes to thank and recognize all health care professionals, including the 250+ physicians and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) working in our affiliated facilities, for their continued commitment and dedication to excellent patient care each and every day.

National Nurses Week

National Nurses Week, organized by the American Nurses Association (ANA), recognizes the “art and science of nursing” and the essential role the nation’s 3.1 million registered nurses have in meeting the health care needs of the American public. It begins on May 6 and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale.

This year, the ANA chose the celebration theme Nurses Trusted to Care. Special recognition occurs on the 8th, which is designated as National Student Nurses Day and the Wednesday during the week is celebrated annually as National School Nurse Day.

National Hospital Week

National Hospital Week, May 9-15, celebrates the history, technology and dedicated professionals of the hospital industry.

The first National Hospital Day in 1921 was the idea of a Chicago magazine editor. He proposed the idea as a public health care event for encouraging trust in the city’s hospitals, following the outbreak of the Spanish flu that killed more than 600,000 Americans.

Sponsored by the American Hospital Association (AHA), this year's theme is Champions of Care.
